The history

Hypnosis has been practiced for thousands of years dating back to the 1500s.  A medical doctor in India, James Esdaile developed techniques before the invention of the anaesthetic chloroform.  It is believed that Esdaile, using his mesmerism technique, undertook over 500 operations, many of which would have been incredibly painful without any form of anaesthetic.  He also found that many of these patients healed in less than the normal recovery period.  Today hypnotherapy is used to accelerate change at a subconscious level.

The Technique

Hypnosis is a technique that works with the subconscious mind.  Your subconscious mind has responsibility for everything you are not thinking about now!  Take a moment to consider that.   This part of your mind has three main functions: it takes care of all your learning, your behaviour and behavioural changes.  It is also stores all your intuitions and emotions.

Hypnosis is not much different to day dreaming – a very deep state of relaxation, called a trance state.   This state is not evasive and whilst you are always in control it will allow an NLP Coach to use therapeutic talk to assist in stimulating change at a subconscious level.  The subconscious mind is an incredibly powerful tool.  It is our internal function that tells us when we are hungry, in pain, tired and operates all our organs for us.  The saying “mind over matter” is very powerful and if you tap into your subconscious mind then you will be tuning in to your hidden self.
